Never Answer for Your Network
Early in my career my boss advised me, when it comes to sales, "never answer for your clients." Answering no to an offer before even asking your client is a disservice to both of you. In doing so, you are not sharing the value you can bring to their business. This is a beneficial piece of advice for those networking and looking for a job at this time. Essentially you are selling your value to your network. Do not assume the people in your network are unwilling to assist you in your search. You must let them know you are in the market for a role and most importantly, share your value with them.
Although currently a trying time, it has also been a most uplifting time. LinkedIn is buzzing with people sharing the value of those in their network seeking a job. Never in my career have I seen more generosity and networking. At Cipriano & Associates we have been working tirelessly with fellow recruiters. Be strategic in your outreach to your personal network. Push yourself to expand your network with hiring managers at companies at which you would like to work. Here are some tips to assist in your approach:
Be human in your approach
The person on the other end of the email may be dealing with their own hardship or loss at this time.
Share your story with your network
Include your current career situation and what you are specifically looking for in your next role. Share the companies at which you are interested in working.
Prepare a brief bio to share
This should include your experience and most recent accomplishments in your job.
Set up a call
Request a moment of their time to schedule a networking or catch up call.
Attach your resume
Be sure to attach an updated resume and the best way to contact you to your note.
